I chose to separate tv shows in this way because my favorites from each category can not be meaningfully ranked against my favorites from other categories —— I love Community for vastly different reasons than Dark, to the point that the two can not be meaningfully compared. While the “Comedies” category contains shows that I generally prefer for their witticisms and humor, and the way in which they encourage my relaxation, the “Non-Comedies” category contains shows that I would say are more prone to tickling my artistic or philosophical sensibilities. However, there is some bleeding of these lines, as Succession does have its comedic moments, and Arrested Development does tell us something about the world and our relations (perhaps). Regardless, I categorize.
Lastly, I separate out “Anime” simply for the audience’s sake. I do not claim any meaningful distinction between animated and live-action media. But, I also do not claim that there is no meaningful distinction betwixt the two. Regardless, I categorize once more.
